New UK Plant Science Community website – www.plantsci.org.uk These are exciting times for the Plant Science world. Finally, everyone who’s involved in Plant Science research can now find out what remarkable scientific breakthroughs have occurred, what the latest funding opportunities are and collaborate with other Scientists working in any area of Plant Science. All this has been made possible through the launch of the new PlantSci website - a unique central resource for the entire UK Plant Science community. PlantSci was developed by GARNet - a Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council-sponsored network set up to support Arabidopsis and the wider plant community. Plant Sci contains a plethora of resources relevant to those studying a wide variety of plant and crop species. This new community site is set to become an invaluable tool in the way it supports hundred’s of Plant Science Research Groups across the UK. The vision for UK Plant Science is to showcase the outstanding work that is being carried out across the UK and support Scientists with their day-to-day research. PlantSci does this by trawling the web for all the relevant Plant Science related information, so busy Scientists don’t have to. Precious research hours are no doubt wasted when trying to find the latest funding opportunities, or Scientists miss the boat because they are too busy at the bench, writing papers or grants and teaching. PlantSci presents all the current opportunities (available as an RSS feed), recently awarded grants, information on funding bodies and highlights all the must-attend upcoming events. The ‘Find a Scientist’ feature on PlantSci provides researchers with the opportunity to locate other Scientists around the UK and help promote collaboration. This is being well received by the community, who are registering their details every day on the growing directory of UK expertise in Plant and Crop Science. There is also the ability to tell the world about the excellent work occurring in any field of Plant Science. Professor Jim Beynon, University of Warwick believes that "the need to work as part of a collaborative network has never been greater as we can no longer hope to have all expertise in a single organisation. As the community sign up to this resource it will be invaluable tool for building new teams based around complementary skills.” PlantSci is a free and open resource for the whole community; it’s the perfect place for anyone who’s interested in the Plant Science world to learn more about this fascinating and flourishing space. "Plus it doesn't matter if we all know plants are better value. I'd make the point of this to the customer but if they want trough grown at the extra cost that's their choice I'd just do it"

"I've done 5ft Thorne troughs. Very easy to plant just got a mini digger dug the trench then drop them in couldn't be easier however £250 per m does seem expensive. "

"Agree with you Graham, we have a client with a long run of Laurel which we only cut once a year mid june and have done for over 20 years, the client is fussy with a capital F ! It's a superb evergreen hedge which is bomb proof.
As to this so called…"

"Disagree there!  I maintain a site with a couple of of large laurel hedges and one cut in July suffices and keeps it looking nice.  Agree.... looks nasty immediately after cutting but quickly perks up so you don't notice the cut leaves.  Pretty much…"

"That's pretty much my thinking, but I am seeing them more and more. Mostly at expensive new builds. Mostly people with very limited gardening experience wanting an immediate finished product. "
