Having attended our first Marshalls Register Roadshow last night and receiving our awards we were pretty impressed to find that it wasn't all about the awards but about helping the register members build a better business and adding value to what we as landscapers offer.

The whole evening was full of interesting and inspiring presentations that left us motivated, inspired and feeling supported as a business by the company. To those who couldn't make it you missed out on some great new ideas that we will certainly be implementing within the company from:

* Good, better, best - why are we not as contractors up selling on all quotations. Most of us give one option for one type of slab/block. From now on the quotes we send out will have 3 options - good, better and best to  be able to install better quality products and improve our portfolio as well as adding a small margin!

*Building better business - the new extranet service Marshalls are offering us, their register members is absolutely phenomenal. It will actually give back control to the client allowing them to choose the most suitable contractor via various categories and they can then text or phone us direct. For a business like ours it is a great platform to show off our strengths and ideally get more customers choosing us.

*New products - a great selection of new products were showcased last night with new and exciting options to be able to offer our customers. It is events like these that make it even more worthwhile being part of the Marshalls register.

I do have to say how superb the speakers were; Peter Montgomery, Steve Palmer and Shane McCormick and thanks to them we will be moving our business forward in the ways outlined from today.

Finally, if anyone is thinking of going on the register it is highly recommended by us at Aura Landscapes who genuinely believe it is helping to grow our business from the recognition through the awards to the support the whole team give us as a business.

"Plus it doesn't matter if we all know plants are better value. I'd make the point of this to the customer but if they want trough grown at the extra cost that's their choice I'd just do it"

"I've done 5ft Thorne troughs. Very easy to plant just got a mini digger dug the trench then drop them in couldn't be easier however £250 per m does seem expensive. "

"Disagree there!  I maintain a site with a couple of of large laurel hedges and one cut in July suffices and keeps it looking nice.  Agree.... looks nasty immediately after cutting but quickly perks up so you don't notice the cut leaves.  Pretty much…"
