Midlands based independent supplier of seed, landscaping products and hydraseeding consumables, Phoenix Amenity Supplies is marking next year’s World War One centenary by selling memorial poppy seeds to wholesale and retail customers, with £2 from each purchase being donated to supporting fallen heroes charities.
Recognised as the iconic symbol of remembrance, the humble red poppy will be even more poignant next summer when the world commemorates 100 years since the start of World War One.
Phoenix Amenity Supplies managing director, Chris Baker said: "Seeing a field full of red, cornfield poppies, always makes people stop and think. With the centenary taking place next year, we are encouraging people to sow poppy seeds now so they will be in flower for the centenary year."
Poppies are herbaceous and make a colourful addition to any window box, patio pot or flowerbed. They are a very popular choice especially amongst inexperienced gardeners as they are very easy to grow, and with little effort, they will come back every year.
"We hope that people will think ahead for next year’s Centenary year and buy memorial poppy seeds, whether for a window box or landscaping in a park, to commemorate the enormous sacrifice 100 years ago," said Chris Baker.
