The UK government has in place a consultation process covering local air quality in England, with a deadline of 30 August 2013.
Local authorities in England, Wales and Scotland are required to regularly review and assess air quality in their areas against objectives for several pollutants of particular concern for human health.
The Environment Act 1995 and associated regulations that established the local air quality management system (LAQM) have been in place since 1997, but since then there has been no comprehensive review.
And it is the consultation process that will form part of an overhaul of the current rules and regulations.
Air quality is devolved; this consultation is England only.
