Why not make a proper path, bark chippings, gravel etc? Nothing too fancy or expensive. Otherwise every year you will be spending money fixing a never going to be great lawn while…"

man brand names you can think of?, that would be ideal as I have rubber sheets to go over grass etc, it's mostly crushed slate paths  anyway, and you could probably ride a tank over that stuff!
