Landscaping as a career?

We have been established for over 30 years and in the last 5 years have seen so many  businesses pop up out of no where. Many of these landscaping companies have been set up by past employees of Abel Landscaping whom left and have now set themselves up as competitors. However, there are other companies that have set themselves up on there own accord fairly recently which has made us realise that landscaping as a career is becoming increasingly popular.

Qualifications & Training

There is a misconception that landscaping is an easy job - how wrong this is. Landscaping can be really hard especially in winter months.

Here at Abel Landscaping Liverpool we believe that training is key and necessary, it doesn't just happen in a 1 hour session but slowly over time. The more patios and driveways you lay the better quality your installations will be. It is key to work alongside an installer who has experience so that you can watch intently to how they work and they can correct you where you are going wrong. There are also courses that companies like Marshalls put on to help new installers learn new techniques and skills.

There are qualifications that all types of installers can gain such as a landscaping (horticulture) diploma, should they wish to take their career even further.

We have a few trainee landscapers in our company who are working with our top installers so that they can progress in our company

Competitors

As mentioned earlier there are so many competitors now in Liverpool that all the companies are trying to under cut each other. I don't know whether this is the same in your area? We openly advertise that we are not the cheapest company but as we have experience (and have trained most of the other companies around) you know that you are going to receive the best quality job from the top Liverpool installers, that will last you years and years to come. We also offer 10 year guarantees as we know that customers who spend alot of money like reassurance.

Websites are also great to compare quality of work and knowledge base. Our website not only shows you the quality of our work, the projects we are currently working on but also after-care advice so that you can look after your investment.

Starting your Career basics

If you are looking for a career in landscaping you need to take the following advice into account. Find a company that is suitable for you to work in. Be aware of your competitors - don't give them information. Get TRAINING - the more training the better as there are so many different aspects to landscaping. Get QUALIFIED - to progress in the industry. These are just some of the basic things that you need to do to start off your career.

"Can't find the MHHP manual online, but the other Etesia mowers have an engine bypass lever, to allow the mower to be pushed etc. If you operated this lever prior to winter storage, you'll need to put it back to normal position. "
