"The company behind the project has fiercely defended the measure – which was revealed in the 55,000-page draft bill introducing High Speed 2 to parliament last week – claiming it is an environmentally friendly way to dispose of the material. It says the earth will be used to help landscape the immediate area around the line and to build "bunds" that will absorb sound from the trains."
