Well, with the hottest day of the year so far in the offing it has been hard to keep plants (and me) from wilting. we both need similar things - plenty of water and some shade. I have set up an awning in my own garden to help the planting beneath from getting full sun all day and for myself, I am wearing my special gardeners hat with wide brim (and string to attach it so it doesn't slip). Others have commented that all I need is a few dangling corks to complete the picture! Certainly this weather is extreme for the UK. Not since 1977 can I remember such unremitting heat.. still this time last year we were complaining of the rain. so you just can't win.
Help your plants to get through the next week by watering only in the cool of the day and mulching heavily to prevent evaporation. Shade also helps of course but this may not be controllable. Don't worry about lawns -they will go brown but will recover soon enough in the autumn.
And enjoy - this is a proper summer after all...

I like close planting so that the rootzone is kept shaded and cool(er). I put a lot of manure/compost into my new border this spring but there's barely sign of it now - definitely going to mulch heavily this autumn/winter and fill in the gaps with new plants.
me too but some of my clients like gaps between things. in this case the mulch is even more important. Mine has completely disappeared since the spring but it's much too dry at the moment to put it on at the moment..
could do with some rain i am running out of grass to cut, still it means i will get started on the hedge cutting
