Forestry Commission Scotland is resuming harvesting work at Glen Righ on May 27 and will be dealing with some of the biggest trees that have had to be felled to date.
With some of the trees being nearly 40 metres high and weighing over 5 tonnes, the Commission’s team will be using one of the biggest skylines in the UK to safely fell and remove them from the hillside above the A82.
To ensure that members of the public and other road users are protected and remain safe, traffic management will be in place over the course of this latest phase, which is expected to continue until late Autumn.
Alex McLeod, who is managing the project for Forestry Commission Scotland, said: "We’ve built up a good body of experience of steep ground work over the past two years but we’ve not yet had to deal with trees of this size.
"We’re taking a belt and braces approach to public safety on this one and we’ve analyzed traffic flows along the A82 – as well as ferry sailings - at this time of year in a bid to minimize disruption as much as we can.
"However, we acknowledge that there will be some inconvenience and we would like to apologize in advance to road users who will be affected."
