Gardens are really important for us, for our well being and physical health and being in a beautiful garden is a deeply spiritual and reviving experience.
Recently I completed a garden for a family. They are delighted with the change their garden has made.
"Our garden is so lovely and we are so happy! Thank you"
People who have gone from no garden (just a bit of lawn and a few tired shrubs I mean) to a garden (one that has been designed to meet their needs and bring out the best in the space) experience a big change in their lives. A garden brings such pleasure, relaxation and peace. It also brings a connection with the seasons and with nature which are both deep-seated longings of the soul.
I speak from personal experience as we have finally finished our own garden now and the difference is huge.
As I am not a writer (I'm better with pictures than words), but luckily there are plenty of writers who have already put it into words!
Here are a few of my favourite:-
God's Garden
By Dorothy Frances Gurney
The kiss of the sun for pardon, The song of the birds for mirth, One is nearer God's Heart in a garden Than anywhere else on earth.

"The lesson I have thoroughly learned and wish to pass on to others is to know the enduring hapiness that the love of a garden gives" Gertryde Jekyll
"Everyone needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in where nature may heal and cheer and give strength to the body and soul" John Muir
