The way I see it is that the modern landscape company has to be at the fore front of trends other wise they may get passed over for a company that can undertake everything in-house. The still growing markets are 1. garden lighting, think out door living, this is a massive opportunity & more profitable very often than landscaping. You will need a qualified electrician who is reliable, but some of the low voltage stuff is so good now, they can be easily done by someone who is competent at DIY. 2. Artificial turf. 3. garden irrigation - water will only become more expensive. 4. Lawn care services - this is still an expanding market. 5. Ecology - creation of areas that encourage birds, hedgehogs etc. 6. Home grown veg - think raised beds for rotating the crops.
Anyone else got thoughts on this.?

I think that is really true and also that it is good to follow other trends such as the growing area of landscape ecologists. With vegetable plots and rotation it is also a visual thing - making the most of the beauty of the veggies and their frames. With garden lighting I guess all about white LED's and solar lighting? Solar powered pumps and water harvesting systems have been mentioned too.
