The Future Forests Network is a collaboration between the Forestry Commission, The Silvanus Trust and the Sylva Foundation.
This new project aims to map the occurrence of new and novel species already growing in UK forests, to provide the forestry sector with resilient, varied and useful species for the future.
The website is aimed at forest owners, managers and those with an interest in timber and it is hoped that it will prove useful to see how these potential species grow in a forest environment and to assess their suitability for particular sites.
The team behind the Future Forests Network hope that enabling people to visit the site of a species of interest, to see photographs, read an owner’s opinion or even just to know others have tried it would be a valuable asset to the forestry community.
