Three garden cities are to be built, with at least 15,000 homes each, with the aim to tackle Britain's chronic housing shortage, Nick Clegg has said.
The deputy prime minister has issued a 'call to arms for visionaries' who have new and interesting ideas for housing as he announced the publication of a prospectus inviting bids from councils.
There has been no mention of possible locations for the garden cities, but that new developments will ensure 'public services, green spaces and amenities are hard-wired into designs from the beginning'.
Funding from an existing £2.4bn pot will be made available for developments being built up to 2020.
