Now i, like 99% of yourselves get very annoyed at the disgusting rip off merchants and crooks with in our trade and other manual labour trades.

However, i have recently noticed while sitting down of an evening with the other half, infront of the box, that it seems the only programs showing are about how NOT to get ripped off or how to spot a dodger tradesmen or cowboy builder. ALL very negative and i think very damaging for the trade.

The economy is in a bad way and i am a firm believer that positivity is key for growth and recovery, The fat cats of broadcasting have got it all wrong, bring back the days of gardeners world, ground force, garden invaders, grand designs to name a few. Like these programs or not they are very positive and give the general public the push to think about their outside living spaces and how they can improve them, not thinking about how every tradesperson is going to do a runner with their hard earned cash.

Now, we do have great viewing of the RHS flowershows over the summer months which is fantastic, as soon as these programs are aired we see an increase in sales of products and the number of calls for quotes increasing ( awaiting stats) However my anger is with the scare-mongering programs. i say again we do not need people to think bad of any trade it is damaging for us all.

So if any body reading this is a director or producer thinking of making another "cowboy, crook, going to rip you off and ruin your life" program. please give a thought to this post and lets think positive.

Peas and love.

  • I heartily agree Kieron. Positivity is always the best plan of action...
  • I'd like to see a programme telling the other side of the story ie hard working tradespeople getting ripped off by none paying customers!

  • Good point Jenny.

"I've done 5ft Thorne troughs. Very easy to plant just got a mini digger dug the trench then drop them in couldn't be easier however £250 per m does seem expensive. "

"Disagree there!  I maintain a site with a couple of of large laurel hedges and one cut in July suffices and keeps it looking nice.  Agree.... looks nasty immediately after cutting but quickly perks up so you don't notice the cut leaves.  Pretty much…"
