So who might buy a £1 million flower pot once used in a Chinese emperor's palace?
Well we should find out soon when four glazed stoneware flowerpots, dating from the Ming dynasty, go on sale next week in an exhibition at Mayfair art dealers Eskenazi, in London.
The pots would have been used in the gardens of a Chinese emperor, with the glazed jardinières, each about 20cm diameter and 19cm high, dating from the 15th century.
They have a simple modern design, featuring bold colours, and it is believed they would have held bonsai trees to form miniature landscapes dressed in gravel.
The jardinières and other pottery items will be on display at Eskenazi from 31 October to 22 November, 2013.
