Another record day for Green-tech

Another record day for Green-tech.

The UK may be hidden under a cloud of economic doom and gloom at the moment but in Nun Monkton North Yorkshire the sun is still shining. Over 200 pallets of landscaping equipment left the Green-tech yard on Tuesday, a record day for the company that started off life 17 years ago in a garage. Everything but the kitchen sink left Green-tech’s warehouse this week with items such as tree shelters and tubes to pesticides and fertilisers. The planning and logistics involved in distributing and guaranteeing delivery of 200 pallets to customers from the North of Scotland right down in the South to Cornwall is a feat in itself. However the Green-tech team took it in their stride and made sure every delivery was made on time every time.

Green-tech is the leading UK supplier of equipment and consumables to the landscaping and horticultural industries. Based in Nun Monkton, Green-tech employs 40 staff, has warehousing space of over 30,000 sq ft and its own fleet of vehicles. Green-tech’s recent success can be credited to its ability to move with the times compounded with its experience of the industry. Last year Green-tech moved into two new markets, supplying products to both the Horticulture (Professional Growers) and Garden Centre retail markets. Both markets are proving to be an astute move for the company. To support the new business venture Green-tech has employed 5 new people from the local area. Its product development team is busy working on a new brand called Gardener Supplies, a range of tree planting products, all in response to demand from its new customer base.

Rachel Kay Managing Director comments:

‘Distribution of 200 pallets in one day is another mile stone for the company. Everyone in the warehouse, sales office and logistics office pulled together on Tuesday to ensure all deliveries were made and more importantly our customers were happy. We are blessed with an excellent team in place that will pull out all the stops to ensure Green-tech is delivering on time, every time. Tuesday’s milestone follows a record financial year in 2010 and our first million pound month in March last year, it is an exciting time for the business.’

"Plus it doesn't matter if we all know plants are better value. I'd make the point of this to the customer but if they want trough grown at the extra cost that's their choice I'd just do it"

"I've done 5ft Thorne troughs. Very easy to plant just got a mini digger dug the trench then drop them in couldn't be easier however £250 per m does seem expensive. "

"Disagree there!  I maintain a site with a couple of of large laurel hedges and one cut in July suffices and keeps it looking nice.  Agree.... looks nasty immediately after cutting but quickly perks up so you don't notice the cut leaves.  Pretty much…"

"That's pretty much my thinking, but I am seeing them more and more. Mostly at expensive new builds. Mostly people with very limited gardening experience wanting an immediate finished product. "
