Natural and artificial sports contractors Agripower Contractors have dramatically reduced on-site time and haulage costs with the development of their latest specialist equipment.
The STR (Synthetic Turf Recycler) was constructed and developed over a two month period and proved to be quite a challenging project especially with regard to the hydraulic system, but the fabrication and on-site trials were completed in time to carry out the refurbishment and conversion of an existing sand filled ATP at Brunts School in Mansfield earlier this month.
The in-house synthetics team at Agripower requested that a machine be developed to remove the sand content of the waste grass but more importantly lift the existing grass carpet without any risk of damage occurring to the underlying shock-pad and in ideal world, roll the grass into a compact and uniform size.
Machines currently available on the market along with traditional methods often used by contractors offer considerable risk to the integrity of the pad and are largely dependent on the skill of the operator using equipment not specifically designed for the task at hand.
“Our in house workshop has excelled yet again,” said Director Graham Longdin. “This particular project was very complicated, and for the equipment to arrive on site and go straight to work is quite an achievement. The machine is capable of removing 85-95% of the sand content when working in dry conditions, massively reducing the off-site haulage, which in an incredibly competitive market should keep us ahead of the competition. I am very proud of what the workshop staff has achieved and am looking forward to the replacement of the later 3G surfaces.
