A Guide to Build Your Own Garden Pond

One of the best ways you can improve on your garden and make it a relaxing area to be in is to have some kind of water feature. Everyone finds water very calming and hypnotic almost, and when you have a water feature with some fish in it can really transform any garden. A pond is the best water feature to have, and these can be any size or shape which means that they are suitable for any sized garden. A pond will bring many advantages, but it is important that you know how to properly set one up in your home, as well as how to maintain it too.

Once you have established the size of the pond and where it will be in your garden then you will be ready to begin, and the first stage is to mark out the perimeter of the pond and remove the turf. Next you will need to dig out the area of the first shelf, and then mark the outline of this with a piece of string, and then carry on digging out the center or more shelves if you need them, and you continue this until you reach the maximum depth. You will next want to check the area and remove any stones or lumps, and then cover the area in a thin layer of builder’s sand. For the lining of the pond you will want to put a layer of pond underlay over the sand for added protection, and you can then use the liner and spread it out evenly over the area, and it is a good idea to secure the sides with bricks. You can now begin to fill up your pond, and be sure to pull the edges of the liner so that it all fits nicely, and then once the pond is full you can trim the sides and cover it with stones, turf or whatever else for a natural feel. You can then add ornaments to the area, lights and anything else you like to personalize your pond.

Finding All the Equipment you Need
This is the best way to quickly and easily make your own pond in your garden, and for all the equipment like liners, filters, pumps, lights and accessories you will want to visit an aquatic retailer. Aquatic retailers, like All Pond Solutions, will be able to supply you with all you need, and have the best quality products too.
