Today I returned home to find it was THE DAY... those of you who can recall the era of "Ren and Stimpy" (the anti-Tom and Jerry) will be able to conjure up the image of Fereday skipping around "Stimpy-style" clutching something to his chest and sighing "Joy..." Those of you who don't remember "Ren and Stimpy" have clearly avoided one of the main signposts to the downfall of Western culture..... Well done, you!!!Anyway, it appears that while I was out working hard today, our perverse postie delivered "Tool porn" addressed to Fereday... yes, the new Screwfix catelogue is out.... And... at 3.1 cms, it is at least a full centimetre bigger than the last edition. Fereday is in his element!! He has not yet noticed, or possibly isn't bovvered, that pages 643 to 706 are upside down...Honestly, its the B&Q equivalent of Herman Melville's "Moby Dick". When you read Melville at school, they told you which sections you could skip - those dealing with the technicalities of whaling. But Fereday will read the whole Screwfix opus from cover to cover, like some obsessed swot! This is the same man who just about manages a "book" which has been "written" by Jeremy Clarkson! I ask you???!!!And my day? Well, I spent today reviewing Statutory Instrument 2188 to further my understanding of the gateways under s 348 of FSMA 2000 waffle, waffle, waffle....- sometimes I think Fereday and I are like Sir Humphrey from "Yes, Minister" meets the Old Ned from "To the Manor Born". But I wouldn't change it for the world!

  • Fereday informs me that there are actually two sections which are upside down.... ooooh... get him!!
  • Ooh! Ooh! Ooh! They do sheds!

I'm not really doing anything to dispel the stereotype am I?
  • No dear, you aren't... after all the control I exert over myself to avoid exposing your Clinque for Men, metro-seasonal habits, you could at least control yourself!
  • Obviously you two 'speak' to each other via the comment wall. Looking forward to the impending domestic!

    Hi Cat

Could you ask Andrew how his new garden is going?

    Thanks

    Phil :)
  • Oh Phil, the same problem from last week is happening again with Cat's profile. I've tried changing her homepage and even cutting down her photo size, but I think it might need your magic touch. Cat's got another blog post ready to go as well.

I've been over to the new garden today so I'll post again tomorrow with an update.
  • Kerrie - we have to use this blog spot - there's no more room for post-it notes on the fridge!!

"Plus it doesn't matter if we all know plants are better value. I'd make the point of this to the customer but if they want trough grown at the extra cost that's their choice I'd just do it"

"I've done 5ft Thorne troughs. Very easy to plant just got a mini digger dug the trench then drop them in couldn't be easier however £250 per m does seem expensive. "

"Agree with you Graham, we have a client with a long run of Laurel which we only cut once a year mid june and have done for over 20 years, the client is fussy with a capital F ! It's a superb evergreen hedge which is bomb proof.
As to this so called…"

"Disagree there!  I maintain a site with a couple of of large laurel hedges and one cut in July suffices and keeps it looking nice.  Agree.... looks nasty immediately after cutting but quickly perks up so you don't notice the cut leaves.  Pretty much…"
