Linking to another web page

One of the most powerful elements of a website is the link as this can point readers to articles of interest that everyone can then share. On the Landscape Juice Network you can either link to another page on the site or a web page out on the internet - here's how. 1. First you need to copy the target link you want, so if it is a page on another website then copy the full website address you see in your web browser. 2. On your own story you need to highlight the word or words you want to link off, they should turn blue, and then click the small chain link icon beneath your title, this will pop up a window. 3. Then paste in your target link, it needs to look like this http://www.thisfrenchlife.com/ click OK and it will automatically add the link to the other website in your piece. It is always helpful for readers if you try to link off words that describe where you are sending them, instead of something like "click here", so this could be an explanatory phrase or the actual title of the page.

    Hi Niall,
    You've done it with the link off your name in the comment, if that's what you mean.

    And Tags are available to the originator of the blog post or forum message, and you can add as many as you want but I'd say five or six maximum.

    Again might have got wrong end of the stick, if so just shout.

  • Hi Craig, when I first managed to do this I was dead chuffed (as when - and Phil must've breathed a sigh of relief too - when I finally managed to upload a picture) - but for a while now every time I paste my link, it turns green, I upload, but when I check it after I'm getting 'internet explorer cannot display the webpage' --- I'm clicking on the small chain 'add hyperlink' button and before I can paste I'm getting a pop-up saying 'this website is using a scripted window to ask you for information, if you trust this website, click here to allow scripted windows...' which I do. - Any ideas on what I should be doing Craig? - Regards - Pete.

    I am not sure if Craig has managed to get on-line as yet. I met with him on Tuesday and France Telecom had promised to have him up and running by Wednesday - I haven't seen him around as yet.

    A summary of what you should be doing:

    1. Go to the page you wish to link to. Right click in the address bar and click 'select all'. When the address turns blue right click again and click copy.

    2. Go back to the forum or blog post you wish to embed the link into. If you haven't already done so, write the text and then highlight the word(s) you want to use as anchor text, go up to the chain link in the tool bar, click and then insert the copied URL into the text box and click OK. Save post.

    Let me know if you have followed this procedure the same way?

  • I found this bit of Prince Charles talking about buildings from Shanes link to "orchards" - What he's saying is all good stuff but its his delivery that kills me. - I remember quite a while back Prince Philip was dragged over the coals for a racist comment, - I think the royals are above all that, but what he'd said was - on being shown some shoddy work (in a factory I think) that it looked like the work of Indians - and I'm sure what he'd meant to say was cowboys, bless him.

    Phil, I'm uploading this comment before I check to see if link works (got a feeling it won't) must be to do with my computer? --- I'll try another site/page I did have success with about a month ago --- stiga pro 55 4S --- If that one has worked, and the Prince Charles one hasn't then maybe its the later's page. - I'll get there.

    Taking a look at the link you have embedded in 'this bit' for your Prince Charles piece it seems you have pasted the http:// twice.

    Make sure you delete the http:// that is automatically added to the URL pop up

    This is how your link looks like - http://http//news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/8113680.stm

    It is the same for the stiga pro 55 4S link - http://http//products.stiga.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=12601&catalogId=12051&productId=208117&categoryId=12671&top_category=12653
