Glad to hear the photography is making progress:)
I agree with a lot of what you are saying in terms of free cash and the coming months - the UK is far from out of the woods; it has yet to filter down to a lot of businesses.
I wrote recently about Man Utd's debt crisis and consumer spending - I think football is about to capitulate and one factor that will add to its demise is the reduction in TV money.
Sky have just lost a court case and now they have to reduce prices they charge to rival companies who sell-on their sporting programmes - the consumer will have more money in his pocket but the football clubs will see less from Sky et al.
Without seeming like a complete doom merchant all the time, the decline of bigger business is good for the one-man-bands, partnerships and smaller companies; I think, a lot of good will come from this crisis eventually.

Cannot deny it has been very tough over the last 12 months, still working at the garden centre but also running the photography business as well, at present there is no way the photography will cover an income but until such time as I cannot fulfill clients requests then I will have 2 jobs, I ma sure within the next 24 months it will all change, already this year my photography enquiries have been great and weekends and evenings are being taken up full at the moment.
The garden centre work is tougher, curiously last year although it was extremely tough it worked out as a more profitable year, perhaps it is because we are running it more professionally and not taking things for granted. You certainly cannot predict the business, trends may be towards grow your own but this is just a flash in the pan as a lot of people are already saying that their results were not what they were expecting and certainly not commensurate to the effort they put into it.
It will be an interesting year, personally I cannot see any light at the end of the tunnel, I feel the free cash, and this is what our industry does rely on, will be at a premium and only those that really offer great value for money and this does not have to be just price will be ok.
There are a lot of businesses that are on the edge and if they have not taken action by now will really suffer as cash gets tighter. An interesting year ahead.

I have thought about this for years and I was going to do it when I had the opportunity to take on Bakers Farm nursery.
