Havant Borough Council grass cutting teams have been experiencing difficulties keeping the grass verges cut during the adverse weather conditions experienced during this Spring. A combination of extremely wet weather earlier in the year and the recent wet conditions and warm temperatures has resulted in grass and weeds growing far quicker than it would normally. Staff who are responsible for managing the grass cutting admit that the current situation is the worst it’s been for many years with a ‘perfect storm’ of conditions to hamper maintenance programmes. Describing the problems, Peter Vince, operational services manager, said: "The grass cutting programme is usually different every year because of the weather conditions and we have to be as flexible as possible. "However, this year it is a real problem matching our resources with the timing of the cuts required. We can only apologise to residents if they notice that areas do not look as tidy as they would normally do. We are working hard to get the service back on track."

  • As well as all the normal power tools I use a scythe. A scythe actually cuts better in wet grass and weeds.
