Urban Gardens

I want to let the network know about my blog, Urban Gardens (www.urbangardensweb.com) and ask if there are any of you out there who would like to contribute a guest post about vermiculture and composting, or any other subject of interest for that matter.I have recently written about urban agriculture, including a post about the Boston Food Project, a sustainable food program that, in addition to produce, also cultivates youth leadership.Would love to collaborate with other bloggers, add you to my blogroll, and ask you to do the same. Hope to her from you!

  • Robin,

Hi. If you want to check out my blog on LJN and see if there is anything you think either fits or juxtaposes well with your blogging, then let me know and I'm happy to help out. No offense taken if you think it's not the kind of thing you are looking for.

Kind regards and best of luck with all your efforts,

    Cat (The Gardener's Wife)
  • Hi Cat--I can't figure out where the link to your blog is, sorry! Can you tell me? Thanks! Robin
  • Cat--got it--do you also have a blog outside of this network?
  • Robin,

I don't have a blog outside the network, no. But I think you can read them without joining the network? Don't know about whether cutting and pasting would work - not the most savvy person with net developing stuff!
  • Hi Robin,

Great blog. Just to let you know I've subscribed to it.

I'm not a gardener, or in the trade. I am Chair of a tenant management organisation, and currently doing a work placement with the regeneration team at a housing association.

I am very interested in urban land use and how to get the most out of what is available and look forward to reading future blogs.
  • Great, thanks George! My site is not just, as you can see, for gardeners. It is for those non-gardeners who live in urban areas, and in areas with small plots, or those who might be interested, as you are, in urban land use and perhaps urban agriculture. Glad to have you on board, and please pass the link on to others and encourage them to subscribe. Best, Robin

"Agree with you Graham, we have a client with a long run of Laurel which we only cut once a year mid june and have done for over 20 years, the client is fussy with a capital F ! It's a superb evergreen hedge which is bomb proof.
As to this so called…"

"Disagree there!  I maintain a site with a couple of of large laurel hedges and one cut in July suffices and keeps it looking nice.  Agree.... looks nasty immediately after cutting but quickly perks up so you don't notice the cut leaves.  Pretty much…"

"That's pretty much my thinking, but I am seeing them more and more. Mostly at expensive new builds. Mostly people with very limited gardening experience wanting an immediate finished product. "

Tim Bucknall replied to Duncan Neville's discussion Instant hedging
"Yes 5' actual instant shaped hedging is very expensive, but if that's what he wants he'll have to pay for it.  A good compromise is use individual plants- you could use 1.5m, but 1.8 or 2m plants would probably be bushier, and by trimming to height…"
