Timothy Walker is to step down from his role as director of Oxford University Botanic Garden and Harcourt Arboretum after 28 years in the role.
He will leave his post at the end of this academic year, on the 31 July 2014.
Timothy will pursue his advocacy for plants, plant conservation and plant science and focus on teaching in these areas as well as continuing as lecturer at Pembroke and Somerville colleges in Oxford.
Under his directorship, Timothy Walker has overseen great changes; He was the founding member of the Friends which was established to support the work of the gardens and arboretum.
