The floods that struck Cumbria in November 2009 caused devastation to villages and towns across the whole county. Amongst the areas affected was Egremont, a town situated on the west coast of the county, which suffered when the banks of the river Ehen burst and flooded houses, business premises and sports facilities throughout the town – including the local rugby club, Egremont RUFC.Technical Surfaces was called in to assess the damage caused to the 3rd Generation MUGA at the Bleach Green venue, which the club hires out to the local community during the day and at weekends. As well as leaving widespread silt and contamination across the whole synthetic pitch, flood water had also displaced a section of the carpet and the underlying stone sub-base.The extensive works involved in repairing the facility included repairs to level out the base and refit the dislodged carpet, followed by a deep-cleaning Rejeneration® of the carpet itself. This patented process removed the sand and rubber-crumb infill that had become contaminated by the excess floodwater, replacing it with fresh material to support and protect the carpet fibres. All works were completed by the company’s NVQ-trained operatives, who used specialist compressed-air machinery to extract the contaminated infill cleanly and effectively, eliminating the possibility of further cross-contamination that can occur with water-based processes. The availability to hire the MUGA at Egremont RUFC provides a valuable source of income for the club, and without a clean, free-draining and decompacted infill the synthetic pitch would soon suffer the financial consequences of poor drainage and compromised playing characteristics. Furthermore, with the pitch only one year old at the time when the floods hit, the club realised the need to protect its asset by investing in the specialist Rejeneration®, thereby helping to secure the long-term future of the playing surface. The importance of the synthetic MUGA to both the club and the local community was evident when the Rugby Football Union (RFU) awarded the club a grant of £12,500 emergency funding from the Rugby Football Federation (RFF) to repair and restore both the MUGA and the grass pitch. The funding also covered the hire of temporary accommodation while the Clubhouse was renovated, allowing the club to continue scheduling bookings for the synthetic pitch.“I am absolutely delighted with the Rejeneration® and repair works completed by Technical Surfaces to help restore our 3rd Generation MUGA”, commented Ian Marr, Vice Chairman at Egremont RUFC. “I was really impressed with their level of professionalism and technical expertise, from my initial meeting with their Technical Manager, Sean Colbert, right through to completion of the works by their team of skilled, knowledgeable and hard working operatives.“Last year’s floods caused such damage, and being without our sports facilities was something we could not contemplate. We were fortunate to receive grant funding for restoration, which allowed us to ensure the best works could be completed on the MUGA by experts in the field of artificial pitch maintenance.“The pitch plays like new – you would never believe it was damaged by floods less than six months ago. I would like to thank everyone at Technical Surfaces for helping us to restore our MUGA to the local community, and I would have no hesitation in recommending their services.”For further information please call Technical Surfaces’ National Office on 08702 400 700 or visit www.technicalsurfaces.co.uk and ask to speak to a Technical Manager.Photo Caption:When the banks of the river Ehen burst and flooded houses, business premises and sports facilities throughout the town including the local rugby club, Egremont RUFC, Technical Surfaces was called in to assess the damage caused to the 3rd Generation MUGA at the Bleach Green venue. "I have a 6ft pair of Niwakis, wish i’d had them years before I did. I initially got the 8fts and immediately realised they would be a pain for the majority of hedges I used to cut. I think they are brilliant just make sure they are seated properly.…"

"I wouldn't cut a hedge without one. Anything over 6' you should get with 3 adjustable legs, otherwise they can be unstable if you lean - but positioned correctly they are the only way.
Befrore retirement I had an 8' and a 4; . The 4' went in the…"

"Yes had that scenario where you can't reach a fiddly bit no matter what ladder and have to balance on the apex of a shed roof or do best job painstakingly with a long reach pole pruner . "

"We've just finished our second week, so that's a full round of all customers now, and didn't have a single one we couldn't do. It's been a really good start here in the north west and now with nice sunny weather coming up this week it's a great time…"

"I'm very wary of these tripod ladders, I took a life changing fall from the top of a 12ft tripod. Now I only use them myself with great care. The issue is that they are very unstable at the top if you lean to either side, and they go with no…"

"Done a couple of second cuts already this last week would you believe. It's almost as if the grass has a memory of last year's drought and is making up for it now plenty of moisture available"

"the tripods are good but in some scenarios the wide base and the fact the 3rd leg has to be placed some distance away from the step part for stability makes this large foot print impractical eg when cutting hedge behind a shed or greenhouse with…"

"Never tried these but always thought they look a bit of a pain to cart about. Looking at the picture, seems you're quite away from the hedge so you have to reach out more?   I just use ordinary aluminium extension ladders that you can easily adjust…"

"Tripods are better than any other ladder that's a fact. You can cut hedges that are lower than the ladder but it is more awkward, I have a 6ft amd a 12 foot been using both for the last 15yrs and haven't come stuck yet. Believe me once you've had…"

Hi.Does a mossey lawn always equal a full lawn renovation? Once you kill (or control) moss the customer is left with brown / black dead moss all over their lawn. So then its needs scarifying to rake it up, then usually a preseed fert, seed and top…
