STIHL have released the world’s most powerful series-produced chainsaw, the new MS 881 - perfect for professional heavy-duty felling, logging and mobile saw mills.

In comparison to its’ predecessor, the MS 661, the new MS 881 comprises of 121.6cc of displacement as well as 8.6hp/6.4kW output, making it, on the whole, 19% more effective. Not only is it more effective than the MS 661, it is also the only saw made by STIHL to drive a 0.404 pitch chain. It is the ideal saw when tackling the most demanding forestry jobs thanks to its standard bar lengths of 41” and its ability to accept guide bars up to 59”.

The STHIL 2-MIX engine is at the heart of the MS 881, and is the reason why this chainsaw is the only one in its performance class that meets the European Euro-5 (EU5) exhaust emission standard.

Not only is it ecologically compliant, but it is also designed to maintain a substantial power-to-weight ratio of 1.55/Kw due to improved cylinders, slimmer sprocket covers, and the development of lightweight components, whilst also maintaining durability and robustness.

Nevertheless, power is not the only priority for STHIL - the chainsaw is also designed with the comfort of the operator in mind. They have ensured this by including a one-touch stop button to guarantee that the MS 881 is ready to go whenever, providing it is warm.

They have also included features such as captive nuts on the optimised chain sprocket cover which allow for more ease when changing the chain, as well as a new oil pump that regulates the oil flow according to demand, which optimises the flow and maintains its consistency.

The new HD2 air filter improves the service life and the ease of maintenance of the chainsaw by incorporating a radial seal to the filter, which provides the highest quality protection against fine dust. Not only this, but STHIL have also included a diagnostic socket to allow specialist to quickly and efficiently identify any technical faults, and to eliminate them quickly, reducing down-time and allowing for additional efficiency.
