SPRUCED UP FOR CHRISTMAS!

SPRUCED UP FOR CHRISTMAS!The H S Hommers stand at Four Oaks this year will focus on the 2010 Christmas Tree buying season. They have supplied Nordman Fir Christmas trees for many years which are available in a wide range of heights. This tree also has a deep green, soft, bushy, glossy foliage with excellent needle retention properties and will last indoors for a long period. Standard Quality Nordmans are available in Sizes: (5’/7’) - 1.50m/2.25m. Another popular choice is Picea Pungens Glauca (Potted Blue Spruce) which is related to the Norway Spruce. An ideal choice for an indoor / outdoor potted Christmas tree. Available in Sizes: (2’/3’) - 0.80m/1.00m > (3’/4’) - 1.00m/1.25mNORWAY SPRUCE FOR PRESTIGIOUS LOCATIONSThe Norway spruce continues to be a popular choice in the UK and is the traditional species for the British Christmas tree. It is the species you will find erected in Trafalgar Square and 10 Downing Street each year. Sizes include : (4’/6’) - 1.50m/1.80m. (6’/8’) - 1.80m/2.40m. Although many people use the word "pine" for any evergreen, true pine Christmas trees bear their needles in bundles called fascicles, not individually along the stem. They probably have the best needle retentive qualities of all Christmas trees.SPECIMEN ITALIAN PLANTS*H S Hommers also specialise in Shrubs, Plants and Specimen Italian Plants. Mid-size Palms are one of the most popular varieties of plant stock which arrives daily from their carefully selected European suppliers. From 9cm pots through to the larger Olive and Palm Trees. Peter Hommers comments “ The discerning retail plant buyer and landscaper is clearly seeking to provide a wider choice for their own clients”The Wholesale Nursery also supplies Plants, Shrubs and Bulbs to the retail sector - Plug plants, pots and compost to the grower and Seed Potatoes for the ‘Grow your own’ market. If you missed our ‘Record’ Open days in March, make sure you see us on stand E30+59!Tel: 01902 842395. • My personal favorite is the frazier fir. I find its narrow habit makes it ideal for getting the hieght without taking up too much space. However, last year I could not find one for love nor money. I know that the weather caused some problems for growers but I wonder if they have proved unpopular so arnet being supplied. Do you have any info on this?
  • Dear Cesare

I will ask this question of Peter Hommers (or you can call him on 01902 842395). He would be most interested to know of your question! Thank you again.

"Plus it doesn't matter if we all know plants are better value. I'd make the point of this to the customer but if they want trough grown at the extra cost that's their choice I'd just do it"

"I've done 5ft Thorne troughs. Very easy to plant just got a mini digger dug the trench then drop them in couldn't be easier however £250 per m does seem expensive. "

"Disagree there!  I maintain a site with a couple of of large laurel hedges and one cut in July suffices and keeps it looking nice.  Agree.... looks nasty immediately after cutting but quickly perks up so you don't notice the cut leaves.  Pretty much…"
