Not strictly speaking mathematically significant but anecdotally insightful for anyone who has the idea that gardening is a very romantic and easy career:* Dimensions & type of hedge cut: 60m length x 10' height - Hawthorn / Beech / Snowberry / Holly / Rose / Nettle* Weight of petrol hedge trimmers: 6kg* Time to cut hedge: 5 hours* Number of cigarettes smoked: 8* Estimated calorie usage: 2000* Calories consumed: 1000* Number of hawthorn splinters extracted from hands / arms / legs: 4* Number of species of biting or stinging insects: 4 (midges, horseflies, wasps, bees)* Number of wasp nests disturbed: 1* Distance covered after discovering wasp nest: 45m* Time taken: 2.8 seconds* Number of wasp stings: 2 (1 thumb, 1 knee)* Number of expletives used after wasp stings: 14* Sound level of foul language: 75dB* Time spent wingeing to wife about injuries: 2 1/2 hours* Estimated level of sympathy from wife: NilI think you'll all agree that these are quite significant figures...

  • Hee Hee! Not sure of running records but 45m in 2.8 secs sounds quite fast, have you considered entering the 2012 Olympics?

Impressed by only 2 1/2 hours of man wingeing, Cat got off lightly.
  • Well I might have exaggerated a couple of statistics for illustration purposes...
  • so you winged for longer. Thought you exaggerated.
  • Oi! I'm telling teacher!
  • very good,
so £2.50 on fags £2.50 on oil &petrol...........maybe more transport £5.00 towards tools/car........
£2.50 on food............or was this your own hedge ?? lol
  • As I delegated killing the wasp nest in our garden to Mrs B I cannot possible comment. Well ok truer to say that after I came running in whingeing about my 1 sting (it was excruciatingly painful - honest!) - she went to Tescos, bought the killing foam, came home & calmly dealt with it and without a single sting - typical! She stood there serenely as the wasps swarmed around her - apparently if you stand still they won't bother you.

"I have a 6ft pair of Niwakis, wish i’d had them years before I did. I initially got the 8fts and immediately realised they would be a pain for the majority of hedges I used to cut. I think they are brilliant just make sure they are seated properly.…"

"I wouldn't cut a hedge without one. Anything over 6' you should get with 3 adjustable legs, otherwise they can be unstable if you lean - but positioned correctly they are the only way.

"Yes had that scenario where you can't reach a fiddly bit no matter what ladder and have to balance on the apex of a shed roof or do best job painstakingly with a long reach pole pruner . "

"I'm very wary of these tripod ladders, I took a life changing fall from the top of a 12ft tripod. Now I only use them myself with great care. The issue is that they are very unstable at the top if you lean to either side, and they go with no…"

"Tripods are better than any other ladder that's a fact. You can cut hedges that are lower than the ladder but it is more awkward, I have a 6ft amd a 12 foot been using both for the last 15yrs and haven't come stuck yet. Believe me once you've had…"

Hi.Does a mossey lawn always equal a full lawn renovation? Once you kill (or control) moss the customer is left with brown / black dead moss all over their lawn. So then its needs scarifying to rake it up, then usually a preseed fert, seed and top…
