Rose - this all depends - if planted/seeded between September and April the normal winter rain should suffice. However March to September generally should irrigate over night once a week for at least two months to get the plants established. However this year!!!! Well it is exceptional.
By the way depends on what type of green roof. This is for extensive. Also depends on the scale. If you are doing a small scale green roof where the owner is more in 'charge' they can assess on a weekly basis.
John Little and my e-guide might be of help if you are involved in small scale.
