SCOTLAND'S HORTICULTURAL INDUSTRIES URGED TO GROW

Growers, landscapers and garden centres in Scotland are to be urged to seize new opportunities for growth at this year's leading conference for the horticultural industries. ScotGrow@Oatridge provides a unique opportunity to network and to identify fresh avenues for development.It takes place on 25th November at Oatridge College in West Lothian and the theme of this year's event is ‘Seizing the green shoots of business growth’. Headline speaker will be Duncan Forbes of Stewartsturf, a company which grows turf for the domestic market as well as for golf courses and developers.Mr. Forbes will be telling delegates how developing green surfaces for specific local environments, including creating the biggest green roof in Scotland, has created new opportunities for his company.Other speakers will include Stan Green of nursery and garden centre supplies company, Growforth, who will be encouraging growers, landscapers and other green businesses to strengthen the industry in Scotland by working together.Meanwhile John Tugman of professional compost and chemicals company, William Sinclair, will be discussing the issues and opportunities that exist in the count down to a government-legislated peat-free market in 2020.Dougal Philip, owner of New Hopetoun Gardens, one of Scotland's top garden centres, and who is Chair of this year's event says: “There is huge potential for different businesses to learn from each other and to establish profitable partnerships”.The main sponsor of this year's conference and trade show is Zero Waste Scotland.
