Yesterday while doing some minor tree pruning my expensive Fiskars Telescopic pruners broke. These were less than 2 years old. On investigation I noticed that the whole mechanism was driven by a thin nylon rope which had snapped internally. I am not sure if this can be mended and in any case didn't have time to do that on the jobe so ran out and bought some more - ironically the same make - Fiskars UP86 Telescopic Universal Tree Pruner (there was a limited choice!). They have replaced the nylon wire with a chain mechanism which seems likely to last a bit better (hopefully!) It seems I'm not the only one to have had this happen as a quick call to a gardening colleague found that it happened to her with the same make.. Has anyone else have this problem - or any experience of fixing it? £99 for a replacement certainly makes it an expensive purchase I think for a hand tool.
