Ride-on lawnmower

HI all, does anyone know anything about ride on lawnmowers? I’m thinking of buying a ride on lawnmower, there’s one i got offered but the bloke said that it needs a replacement rear axle, is this a big problem, or can it be sorted? Any info would be great THANKS

A number of points to take into consideration (here are just a few to start off with):-

Do you need to cut and collect (formal lawns) or more rough cutting and mulching?
Size of lawns / grass areas to be cut
    Roller for stripes or not?
    Access limitations
    Method of transporting ride on
    Budget
  • Robert,

Without knowing what you intend to use the machine for it is hard for any of us to point you in the right direction.

On the assumption that you will not be doing much commercial work on cancel vergers and perhaps more rougher cuts than formal gardens consider the SCAG 36" heavy duty Flail mower. If a ride on for formal gardens and particularly if access is an issue then consider the Etesia Bahia.

As Pro Gard has already stated sometimes a good commercial pedestrain mower is just as quick and more practicial.
  • hi, the ride on lawnmower is a WESTWOOD S1600, RIDE ON LAWNMOWER, i have added some photos of the lawnmower, wont be useing it for commercial work as of now, but hopping with this i can take on bigger jobs, but as of now would be useing it for big gardens, would any of you say this can be used for commercial work or not?

    thanks
  • I think the Westwood would be acceptable for larger residential properties and small commercial clients (communal lawn areas) but wouldn’t like to say what it’s life expectancy would be.

Don’t forget for commercial work where you may be on or beside the roads that the mower and operator must normally have to comply with the Dept. of Transport and Road Traffic Act. The key points being: Road legal (where applicable) including registered. Orange flashing light / beacon, must be over 16 years of age (the operator not the machine!), full PPE etc.

Definately no use for going on/off trailers we used a Countax & had regular problems in that case so bought an Iseki which has far better ground clearance with a 500 litre grass collector to boot downside no striping effect but working on that to see if we can attach a heavy duty rubber strip to the deck!
    Cheers

"Yes 5' actual instant shaped hedging is very expensive, but if that's what he wants he'll have to pay for it.  A good compromise is use individual plants- you could use 1.5m, but 1.8 or 2m plants would probably be bushier, and by trimming to height…"
