RHS Hampton Court 2011

Has anyone got any tips on how to approach potential sponsors as I'm finding it extremely difficult to get to speak to the movers and shakers with the purse strings! I'm primarily looking at Care Homes and Institutions that care for people in rehabilitation. I have tried phoning directly and sending emails with little success. Any ideas?

  • Phil, I think this is this most difficult bit about show gardens, I presume you've put in a design for this years show and its been accepted.

Our garden in 2009 was 'sponsored' by Macmillan but they didn't give us any money. Jill worked it by using their name to get suppliers to loan and donate their products and services but it stll cost us some earned hard cash and labour. Maybe you could try this route with some of the major players in the sector. Try going through their marketing or publicity department.

Alternatively, have you spoken to Mandy Almond at the RHS. Sometimes they get companies wanting to sponsor a garden. This happened with us last year (ok it was a late entry and we only had 3 months to design, organise and build the garden) but it worked well, we developed the relationship and we are exhibiting for them again this year.

Apart from that it is carry on knocking on doors.

Good luck and let me know if I can help further.

  • Yes indeed, I have had a design accepted and spoken with Mandy - she has been very helpful.

I am managing to obtain hard-landscaping materials via donations but I will need to raise quite a bit to cover all the other costs. I'm also going along to the RHS Seminar on the 16th of Feb to see what other tips I can absorb. Thanks for your supportive comments and good luck yourselves!

  • The seminar is worth going to. We picked up lots of tips and its good to meet fellow designers.

What size garden are you doing?

As I said if you have any further questions don't hesitate to ask, you can email me directly if you want.

Hopefully we will meet up in June

    It's tough Phil.

Landscape Juice has been approached to be involved in a big Landscaping event at an RHS venue through 2011 but I'm not confident that I'll find a commercial sponsor with deep enough pockets.

"I've done 5ft Thorne troughs. Very easy to plant just got a mini digger dug the trench then drop them in couldn't be easier however £250 per m does seem expensive. "

Thought I'd sign up to this forum. And I hope I'm allowed to post stuff for sale on here as this will be a one off? I have for sale a tiny pro robot, it's not the new edition but it's the bigger one of the two. If anyone is interested then please…
