Resin Bound Surfacing, Sample job.

After having decided early in the new year to offer resin bound surfacing to potential clients,( following very helpful discussions and advice from Stuart Marler aka TVG Landscaping) I have been underwhelmed by the call for it. Which I believe is due to lack of knowledge of the product. So, after a call from a friend who is after their drive resurfaced I suggested resin bound to them as an alternative to the norm. They are after a clean dry surface, that complies with the new regulations, for their young daughter to play on when they havent got their cars on it. After checking out some websites with pictures they decided they liked the look of it and would like me to lay it for them. Then came the disscusions over prices as usual. Rightly or wrongly, I know everyone has different opinions, I said to them I would carry out the works for a 'special friends' rate on the understanding that I could use the job as a 'show job'. This then will enable me to show the finished product to potential clients and make people more aware of the uses of the product and that it is not just for commercial use.So in my eyes everyone will be happy I get to install a new product (allbeit just covering my costs) on a main road in Sandymoor, Cheshire and they get a nice clean new drive for a bargain price.I will be posting pictures as the drive progresses. Prepartion starts next week with the resin bound surfacing being laid 3 to 4 weeks later giving the new concrete enough time to cure.

  • A bit of a warning re SUDS, as having spoken to three different councils there is a real risk of clients getting into problems with this. There is clearly a lack of knowledge to the customers re this, which in itself should not be a problem. However councils can go back to a completed job and demand that the surfacing is removed and / or a fine. As such we as the contractors may be the only ones who get to actually inform the client of the regulations. I am intrigued by the resin bound surfacing, we carry out crushed down permeable surfacing, but would like to know the outcome for our more discerning clients.

As to this so called…"

"Disagree there!  I maintain a site with a couple of of large laurel hedges and one cut in July suffices and keeps it looking nice.  Agree.... looks nasty immediately after cutting but quickly perks up so you don't notice the cut leaves.  Pretty much…"

"That's pretty much my thinking, but I am seeing them more and more. Mostly at expensive new builds. Mostly people with very limited gardening experience wanting an immediate finished product. "

"Yes 5' actual instant shaped hedging is very expensive, but if that's what he wants he'll have to pay for it.  A good compromise is use individual plants- you could use 1.5m, but 1.8 or 2m plants would probably be bushier, and by trimming to height…"
