We recently had to reinstate a number of resin bound gravel tree pits for a school in manchester.
Although they were installed correctly, when wet they had become very slippery because of the type of gravel used.
initially we tried creating a mechanical key by sanding off the top layer of resin,we then tried coating them with binder and applying quartz sand, which should have been applied initially.
The decision was made to dig them out and install a resin bound mulch to prevent any further trip or slip hazzards.
the main benefits of rubber mulch around trees include-
no loose mulch,
there is a choice of 5 different coloured mulches.
voids in the surface allow the tree roots to can gain water and nutrients.
prevents the build up of litter associated with tradional grills.
can easily be swept by mechanical sweeper.
ideal in a school environment as they act like rubber safety surfacing.
