A pathogen that has established itself in the Apulia region of southern Italy is in danger of spreading and poses a significant risk to European olive trees.

Xylella fastidiosa kills infected plants by preventing water movement in trees, causing leaves to turn yellow and brown before falling off, their branches are affected soon after.
