I am purchasing 500 Hornbeams canes approx 1.6-2m tall.I am hopping to pleach 200 of them for resale at a later date(probably 5-6 years),What i need to know is would it be best to plant them in containers or in the ground as i believe i need to prune the roots on a yearly basis. Is this correct? Also any info would be greatly reciecved as as you can see i am a novice at this.
I have seen them while working in Oxford as a gardener and was really impressed.
They will grow at least 20% faster in NZ than the UK so am really excited and want to do them the best i can.
Cheers To you All

Hi Earle
Only a novice in this space, but have you considered tree root containers ? See:

Hi Mike, yes it seems a grand idea once i have got them to a reasonable size, but dont think they would last long underground as they would probably rust out.

Thanks Jonathan. yes i thought i would need to left them on a yearly basis to trim the tap root, is this the only part i would need to trim?
Cheers
