A garden we have designed in West Yorkshire, lowering the levels in this garden by 1.5 metres we have removed the naturally sloping lawn, and incorporated a flat lawn which compliments the new extension, and we have tiered the 2 metre rise, fronting it with stone from a collapsed wall in the neighbouring field to give a very organic feel. The perennial planting scheme works very well with a burst of evergreen to fill the beds with interest during the winter months.
Drainage was key in this garden design, and we identified a natural culvert in the field to drain the water away, as soakaways were rendered useless in the clay subsoil.
The incorporation of a sunken pathway gives a heady walk filled with colour and joy to the breeze hut which delights the owner with views out across the Wharfe Valley.
The pathways are lit with a series of spread lights which are under planted with Lavender, and they work exceptionally well.
The beds are lit with a few compact uplighters, the upper lawn metal halide lamps. The patio and sunken pathway are lit with recessed lights at 2.5 metre centres.
The lawn was blinded with sand before laying to ensure that the whole area was level, and then RoLawn was lain down which has flourished at 600ft above sea level.
The stone setts were imported from Portugal and tumbled before laying to give a wonderful finish.
