The Woodland Trust is supporting the formation of a brand new, all-party parliamentary group (APPG) on ancient woodland and veteran trees.
The UK’s ancient woodland is a unique, irreplaceable habitat and increasingly, decision-makers are acknowledging its value. Yet there are currently more ancient woods under threat from development than at any time in the Woodland Trust’s history, and the number is growing all the time.
Bringing together MPs and Peers from across the political spectrum, this important new group will meet throughout the year to raise awareness in Parliament of ancient woodland; examine the threats it faces and steps necessary to protect it; and discuss how to better value and protect the nation’s veteran and special trees.
Chaired by Rebecca Pow MP, the first meeting of the group will take place on Tuesday 20 October, 2015, from 2.15 to 3.15pm, in Room P, Portcullis House, Westminster.
