Calling young gardening talent, RHS Flower Show Tatton Park needs you

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) is on a quest to find the best emerging talent from the landscape and plant design arena with the introduction of a brand new category - the RHS Young Landscape Contractor and RHS Young Planting Designer 2016 competition.

The contest will be held at RHS Flower Show Tatton Park (20 – 24 July 2016), a well-known platform for nurturing young talent, and aims to build on the success of the RHS Young Designer of the Year competition, which gives young designers new to the industry the chance to design their first show garden.

Open to designers aged 28 and under, the category will challenge young landscape contractors and young planting designers to work together to build and deliver a garden showcasing their skills and talent in their respective areas of horticulture for the visitors to the RHS Flower Show Tatton Park, creating a hub of young talent at the show.

Lucinda Costello, acting head of shows development for the RHS said: “This new competition is not only exciting for visitors to the RHS Flower Show Tatton Park but also for the RHS in terms of us supporting the industry. We can’t wait to see what fresh talent we have out there.”

The established RHS Young Designer of the Year competition, now in its eighth year, has kick started the careers of many successful designers including gold medal winning Chelsea designer Hugo Bugg and Sam Ovens, who is designing at RHS Chelsea Flower Show (24 – 28 May 2016) for the first time this year.

With the launch of this new competition, the RHS hopes to encourage more young people to get involved in horticulture as RHS Tatton continues to support the designers of the future.
