We are currently involved in a project to help build a garden for a local charity, read more below.March 2010Members of the QEQM Resource Centre and staff at local business, Arbour Design and Build, have officially started work at the new Dimensions garden project at Dagger Lane, Elstree.Following an appeal by Dimensions for help to develop an allotment for people with autism and learning difficulties, businesses and community groups soon rallied round. But, despite the support it had been feared that the project would not go ahead. As soon as Hertfordshire-based landscaping company Arbour Design and Build heard of the group’s plight, they volunteered their support and the project was back on track. The land had been acquired by Dimensions, but additional funding and materials were needed to help turn the dream of an allotment for people who attend the day service at the Dimensions run QEQM Resource Centre into reality.Lauren Butler, Project Manager at Dimensions’ QEQM Centre, said: “We were overwhelmed by the offer of support from Arbour Design and Build. The centre is really grateful for all their help in getting the project up and running. It’s a dream come true for some of the people we support. They really wanted to grow their own vegetables and create their own garden and now this is all possible.”Dimensions is one of the UK’s largest providers of support services for people with learning disabilities and autism. It supports more than 2,300 people across England and Wales.Richard Bickler of Arbour Design and Build has kindly persuaded a few of his contacts to help with the garden. Rob Taylor of Landescape will be working alongside Richard, Portrait Landscape Supplies of Hertford,Professional Tree Care & H.Butterfields of Luton have provided materials free of charge, Norbury Builders Merchants of Hertford, IPS fencing of Watford have all supplied materials at cost price and Lynch Plant Hire have provided some of the machinery free of charge for the project.Richard Bickler, Owner of Arbour Design and Build said, ‘When I learnt of the project I wanted to be involved as I have been looking for ways to use the skills and resources we have to give something back to the community. I would be delighted to work with other local projects along similar lines.Arbour Design and Build is a locally based company who specialise in Garden Design, Landscaping and maintenance within the M25 area. "Plus it doesn't matter if we all know plants are better value. I'd make the point of this to the customer but if they want trough grown at the extra cost that's their choice I'd just do it"

"I've done 5ft Thorne troughs. Very easy to plant just got a mini digger dug the trench then drop them in couldn't be easier however £250 per m does seem expensive. "

"Disagree there!  I maintain a site with a couple of of large laurel hedges and one cut in July suffices and keeps it looking nice.  Agree.... looks nasty immediately after cutting but quickly perks up so you don't notice the cut leaves.  Pretty much…"

"That's pretty much my thinking, but I am seeing them more and more. Mostly at expensive new builds. Mostly people with very limited gardening experience wanting an immediate finished product. "
