Aggregate Industries' North End site, Ashton Keynes has been transformed by garden designer Martin Ford to create a new inspirational display area to showcase the new 2011 product range.

With a short turnaround before the launch of the 2011 Bradstone range, we created a flowing, natural area which provides a legacy for invited guests, customers & clients to view the products in a relevant setting that allows them to be fully appreciated, resulting in higher sales across the product range.

The flexible area can also be used by employees & it is hoped that a culture of guardianship will ensure the area is kept to the highest standards all year round and can be updated according to changes in the product range.

Designer Martin Ford said “Ensuring the smooth flow of a garden at the same time as showcasing all of the new 2011 product range was a big challenge, but we have proven that displays for clients and customers of Bradstone don’t have to be boring and lack inspiration. Selling in situ is always an advantage.

“I was fortunate to have a core of workers that were as enthusiastic about the area as I was, ensuring the project was finished on time and with a stunning outcome. Having top quality hard landscaping products at my disposal also helped – as a designer I am excited by this year’s new range and I am confident they will sell well this year and in the future.”

After October’s launch, clients have already started visiting the site and feedback has been very positive, which has been reflected in orders.

Aggregate Industries Director of Sales, Mike Leeming said “We asked Martin to design an area that reflected more directly the surroundings in which our products are used with an emphasis on improving sales as well as the surroundings for employees at North End. We are thrilled with the results and hope to use this model for future ventures.”

  • Gary, the display area is for clients and stockists to view rather than the general public or tradespersons at the present time. Quick question - if you could, would you be interested in visiting as a Landscaper to see the new product range and then be able to more clearly describe them to clients when consulting with them ? Thanks for posting this Martin.

I'm warmed to see Bradstone (and you of course:) using the site to solicit feedback for the landscape display areas. I think that this kind of web review is the future for our industry and I look forward to hearing more and how you and Bradstone will use the information.
  • I couldn't agree more Phillip, from my point of view, there is no point engaging in a project like this unless I can tell the rest of the industry about it and Bradstone have no problem with me doing so (why wouldn't they - I am promoting their products for free !). Trying to resolve the gap that has been established between the larger companies and the end user (trade and public) is a tricky one !

"I have a 6ft pair of Niwakis, wish i’d had them years before I did. I initially got the 8fts and immediately realised they would be a pain for the majority of hedges I used to cut. I think they are brilliant just make sure they are seated properly.…"

"I wouldn't cut a hedge without one. Anything over 6' you should get with 3 adjustable legs, otherwise they can be unstable if you lean - but positioned correctly they are the only way.

"Yes had that scenario where you can't reach a fiddly bit no matter what ladder and have to balance on the apex of a shed roof or do best job painstakingly with a long reach pole pruner . "

"I'm very wary of these tripod ladders, I took a life changing fall from the top of a 12ft tripod. Now I only use them myself with great care. The issue is that they are very unstable at the top if you lean to either side, and they go with no…"

"Done a couple of second cuts already this last week would you believe. It's almost as if the grass has a memory of last year's drought and is making up for it now plenty of moisture available"

"the tripods are good but in some scenarios the wide base and the fact the 3rd leg has to be placed some distance away from the step part for stability makes this large foot print impractical eg when cutting hedge behind a shed or greenhouse with…"

"Never tried these but always thought they look a bit of a pain to cart about. Looking at the picture, seems you're quite away from the hedge so you have to reach out more?   I just use ordinary aluminium extension ladders that you can easily adjust…"

"Tripods are better than any other ladder that's a fact. You can cut hedges that are lower than the ladder but it is more awkward, I have a 6ft amd a 12 foot been using both for the last 15yrs and haven't come stuck yet. Believe me once you've had…"

Does moss always = full renovation

Hi.Does a mossey lawn always equal a full lawn renovation? Once you kill (or control) moss the customer is left with brown / black dead moss all over their lawn. So then its needs scarifying to rake it up, then usually a preseed fert, seed and top…
