Autumn / Winter Weed Control

With the recent cooler weather, the high-pressure workload of spring and summer is behind us for now. However, the less busy months are still an important period and well-planned winter care can help to alleviate the pressure of the season to come.

Weed control in the autumn and winter months gives us all the opportunity to break the weed cycle and to use different active ingredients, all-important in the struggle against resistance development. During the busy period it is easy for weeds to establish in areas such as; fence lines, boundaries, around buildings and structures, non-cropped areas as well as around trees and shrubs and in flower beds. If these areas have been kept weed free during the peak period, a few warm October days can soon see rise to new weed seedlings. ProGreen can supply and advise on a range of total, residual weed killers that are ideal for controlling existing weeds through the winter and into the spring.

Kerb Granules

The go to winter residual for many ground care professionals. Kerb Granules are most effective in the cool soils of autumn and winter, easy to apply with the applicator provided and long lasting. These granules control a wide range of grasses and broad-leaved weeds. They will kill grasses at almost any stage of development, small weeds and prevent new weeds germinating. Kerb Granules are also safe to apply around established trees, shrubs and hedgerows keeping competition from weeds low and flowerbeds weed free. A full list of tolerant species can be found on the product label.

NB: The current registration of Kerb Granules is soon to expire. This winter may be the last opportunity to purchase your supply so stock up now before they are gone!

Propyz 1L

The same active ingredient as Kerb Granules with the all the same benefits, just applied as a liquid spray. Ideal for contractors treating private gardens, smaller plant nurseries and smallholdings. Treats up to 2350m2 per bottle.

Kerb Flo 5L

As Propyz but in a larger pack size. Has an on label approval for application during frost but should not be applied where the conditions increase the risk of surface run off.

Depending on your location, the above products are best applied between the 1st of October and the 31st of January.  Please see the product label for specific restrictions.

Assuming the cuts are a few weeks apart all should be good?"

"I've seen old daffodil fields with ridges and furrows.  The spaces between the ridges were double yours though to allow walking along to pick.  Could there have been commercial planting once upon a time?"

Difficult one to describe. We've got a couple of lawns that we've taken over and both (unrelated locations) have got an almost rumble strip feel to certain sections. Absolutely paralell lines in a relatively large area. I'm ensured that the only…
