Agripower Contractors, a specialist in all aspects of natural and synthetic surfaces has completed further enhancements to The Regent’s Park, London. The works follow the £2million+ refurbishment project of the Royal Park which was awarded to the company in 2005.
The Regent’s Park covers 400 acres, providing excellent sports facilities and with nearly 100 acres available, makes the park Central London’s largest sports area.
Following the initial construction works of the sports pitches carried out by Agripower in 2004, the Buckinghamshire based company were recently invited back to complete the renovation works.
Using the company’s own fleet of specialist equipment, they completed sand banding on an area of over 62,000m². This technique enables maximum usage of the turf to be achieved during periods of inclement weather. Spacings are variable, depending on the sporting activity, soil type or financial constraints.
Sand band trenches are forced and require no excavation, creating no spoil for disposal and help to reduce cracking during extended dry spells. The narrow trench width reduces the amount of backfilling material required, keeping costs to a minimum.
Sand band trenches are backfilled using hydraulically vibrating hopper which deliver and compress the sand as it is installed to reduce settlement.
This technique will effectively work on all sports fields with very little surface disturbance, meaning normal play can be resumed immediately.
