In praise of the Grand Webmaster Phil

Today, a big, huge "thank you" to Phil who has got my page back up and running! For a couple of days, the gremlins have prevented me from accessing my blog and poor Fereday has been suffering from having to listen to my outpouring and non-sensical ranting. He looked thoroughly relieved this morning when, after a couple of phone calls with Phil and some good techie "bloke-talk", my page became accessible again. You don't get this type of service from all webmasters, you know.At work we have a "hotline" for computer-related faults.... contacting it is generally referred to as "dialling the damned"..... and, after 15 minutes navigating the "menu" (no option for a frothy cappucino!) you eventually get to speak to one of the "support demons" who will ask "have you switched it on and off again?" The support demons must have dartboards in their cells with pictures of David Walliams on them... because the "users" in my office are all competing to get the phrase "computer says no" into (what passes for) the conversation as many times as possible!Anyway, I'm back on blogging... this weekend I plan to launch "Diseases and Pests of the Common Gardener"... I've had plenty of thinking time for this one!

  • Is it the done thing to comment on your own blog? Anyway, I've just noticed that my blogs are recording the French time - fantastic!!! Very oh la la! Either that or I'm not writing this yet! Fereday, you poor bloke, most husbands have to deal with wives who have memories like an elephant.... you've got one who knows the future!!!

Cat, you are more than welcome. I am here to help in any way I can.
Kerrie had a similar problem which I could not resolve and I wish I had explored the same thing on that occasion.

Hope you are having some fun again.

The same applies for anyone who needs help. You can call me . Done worry about the cost, I will I will call you back.

"Agree with you Graham, we have a client with a long run of Laurel which we only cut once a year mid june and have done for over 20 years, the client is fussy with a capital F ! It's a superb evergreen hedge which is bomb proof.
As to this so called…"

"Disagree there!  I maintain a site with a couple of of large laurel hedges and one cut in July suffices and keeps it looking nice.  Agree.... looks nasty immediately after cutting but quickly perks up so you don't notice the cut leaves.  Pretty much…"

"That's pretty much my thinking, but I am seeing them more and more. Mostly at expensive new builds. Mostly people with very limited gardening experience wanting an immediate finished product. "

"Yes 5' actual instant shaped hedging is very expensive, but if that's what he wants he'll have to pay for it.  A good compromise is use individual plants- you could use 1.5m, but 1.8 or 2m plants would probably be bushier, and by trimming to height…"
