There never seems to be any mention of the connection that "one man/woman bands" gain from taking part in such sites, not only as a way to connect with others but also to exchange knowledge and experience.
Coming from a writing background I've seen people warn others of publications that delay payment, something that larger businesses can absorb but which can cripple a freelancer.
