The Castle Basin area of Enniskillen in Northern Ireland has recently been transformed with a £1.7 million investment, funded by the Department for Social Development and Fermanagh and Omagh District Council.

The redevelopment scheme was designed by W & M Given Architects and has involved the creation of a gorgeous new landscaped riverside walkway and a new Castle Promenade along the tranquil River Erne shoreline, produced with Tobermore’s world class paving products, as well as the inclusion of an events space, constructed by Lagan Construction Group.

Tobermore’s fabulous Fusion block paving in Silver and Graphite and striking Mayfair Flags, also in Silver, have been installed on the stunning new pathways at Castle Basin. Fusion and Mayfair Flags work perfectly together as they are both manufactured with a sparkling granite aggregate surface layer that creates a sharp, contemporary look, similar to the appearance of natural granite. These modern hard landscaping products provide a stunning contrast to the ancient surroundings, such as the historic Castle overlooking the river, at Castle Basin.

The project is hoped to provide greater physical connectivity right across Ireland’s only island town, as the new trail has created a beautiful pathway reaching approximately three quarters of the way around Enniskillen. The event space area will also attract exciting opportunities to develop a new social scene in the area.

The progress of the Castle Basin area is in line with the continued development of Enniskillen as a whole, in creating a shared space for the local community to enjoy and attracting tourism and investment into the town.

The Chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Thomas O’Reilly, and Minister for Social Development, Mervyn Storey MLA, officially opened the new Castle Basin Promenade on October 7th 2015.
