basic tools, cannot send submissions

My submissions will not send to HMRC with basic tools.
My login details are not recognised (error1046).
I have basic tools on my pc (vista). Here I cannot print my p60s as they are not ready yet although I completed year end.(?)
I bought a laptop windows 8 and installed basic tools for 2015/16  it did not automaticly update. Here I cannot send submissions due to login details not being recognised. The same details will access government gateway.
I want to avoid penalties for late payments.
Any Ideas?
