  • Grass is growing well, so it looks as though there will be no rest pre leaf fall! Just started autumn renovations on some of the lawns, seems a shame, they look so good - until the scarifier gets at 'em!

Same as Colin here, really was hoping to get a little bit of a chill out period before the leaves start to fall but doesn't look likely this year, and with a bumper crop of acorns it just adds to the fun of it all, not complaining though, things are looking really good atm in the gardens....:-)
    • Hi Colin
      What scarifyers would you recommend.
      • PRO
I have used Dori scarifier's for the past 10 years or so, good machines...
      • I use a Bluebird, Briggs and Stratton, swing blade.  No idea of age, I was given it probably 12 years ago by a local bowls club on the basis 'come and pick it up and you can have it'! They hardly ever used it.

Tomorrow our new aerator/plugger gets it's first airing.

        • Thanks Colin

I was reading one of my old indusrty books last week and it has a section in it about scheduling and matching demand. It discusses the 'typical' season and how businesses need to 'staff' for it. It's noticable over the last 10 years the profile has totally changed (down south) where we can have nearly 11 month cuting season against old style 22-24 cuts per year contracts :(

Anyway, it's gone mad again with all that rain giving rise to massive growth with the recent good weather.

Interesting to know. It seems that we have about 11-12 weeks "off" cutting here in Lincoln. Last cut was very late last year sometime in December can't remember exactly would have to look it up. When did you stop cutting last year Gary?

You know, I don't think we did stop...we dropped down to on-demands as it was mild last winter.

However, I see they started the "It's due to be the worst winter in years..' stories already.

        Must be light on News.
