billygoat scarifier

Evening all,

Im looking to purchase a new scarifier for the business. It has come down to a choice between Eliet, which im familiar with, and Billygoat. The Billygoat supplier has proposed using the overseeder OS552h as this can be used as both scarifier and overseeder ,The overseeder is the scarifier with fixed blades rather than loose, and with a seed box on top, naturally,Has anyone got advice on this or on Billygoat products in general ?.Are loose blades better than fixed? It would be greatly appreciated.

I have used a Billygoat overseeder before and didn't think did a great job for heavy scarification, although it's fine for overseeding.

Personally I wouldn't look past the Eliet.

  • Cheers Robbie,

Iv used Billygoats aerator before and had no complaints but Eliets difficult to beat in this area . Im tempted but past experiences tell me to go with what I know. The company have offered me a demo but I cant actually use the machine......... some demo :-)

    thanks again

  • Hi Paul

Have you considered Bannerman?  I bought a scarifier off them last year, very happy so far :-)

      Hi Paul

I've used Elliets before - do a good job, but adjusting the blade height is a major pain - you have to stop,  loosen the wheel nuts, alter the height, tighten wheel nuts, and see if you're then at the correct height. If not, do it all again ! ( Also had several wheel nuts shear from over tightening )

Also have 2 Bannermans, which I LOVE ! - Easy to adjust, work without thrashing the engine ( The Elliet suggests running at full throttle, the Bannerman at about 75% throttle )

Leave a great finish. The Bannerman is a fraction wide though - I had one 'domestic garden' where I only just got it through the gate. Also had one tyre on a bannerman puncture - The repair was a real pain on such a small wheel - solid tyres would have been so much better !

Hope this helps - if you want any more info, just let me know.

      • Hi Mark,

Sorry for the late reply, I checked the website for Bannerman and their products do indeed seem to be made of sturdy stuff. I was very impressed by the roller on the front, Unfortunately I live in Belgium where Bannerman dont seem to supply, which is a pity. I have mailed the company but as of yet no reply.Eliet is Belgium made and the suppliers of both Billygoat and Eliet are less than 10 mins away.Last monday I purchased the Eliet 501, Which is no use right now but the accountant was screaming to buy something before the end of the financial year here :-). By the way in the past I had the same problem with the hight settings, the first time I nearly went soft trying to figure out how to lower it( the key wasnt on the hire companys machine) HOWEVER the new 501 has a differnt spring lock system which  I am sure make it a doddle adjust :-)...... it also has  mud wheel scrapers on each of the 4 wheels, which to an  sad anorak like me is an added bonus. roll on spring! thanks alot for the advice though, hopefully in the future Bannerman will be available here

        merry christmas

        Paul

Completely off topic (so I apologise), but would be great to hear in the future how 'landscape businesses' operate over in Belgium, the practices, trends, differences, challenges, etc

  • Hi Paul, is there a reason you may have disregarded the CAMON Scarifier range such as the LS42? We would like to think the options were at least considered! (Link: http://www.camon.co.uk/products/lawn-scarifiers). If you have any questions about them then let me know.

Be interested to hear your thoughts,

    -Stewart
